Risk-based Pet Vaccinations to Protect Your Dog or Cat
Vaccines are an important tool in infectious disease management and preventive care. They play a key role in the OSSVH wellness programs for all stages of your pet’s life.
However, all vaccines are not needed or even recommended for all pets and many vaccines are now given less frequently than they once were. Our veterinarians base each pet’s vaccine protocol on your dog or cat’s unique risk factors, such as whether or not your pet goes outside or whether or not there are any other animals living in your household.
Our feline patients are uniquely sensitive to certain vaccines. It has been well documented that vaccines containing components called adjuvant can cause cancer in cats. (For more information see the Report of the Vaccine-Associated Feline Sarcoma Task Force.) For this reason, at OSSVH we only use NON-adjuvanted vaccines in order to provide the safest, most effective protection possible.
Based on your pet’s life style, we will tailor a unique vaccine program that may include:
Dog Vaccines—
- Distemper/adenovirus/parvovirus vaccine
- Lyme vaccine
- Rabies vaccine
- Leptospirosis vaccine
- Bordetella (kennel cough)
Cat Vaccines—
- Rabies vaccine
- FVRCP (feline distemper) vaccine
- FeLV (feline leukemia) vaccine
